What are NVQs

What are NVQs and how can they help?

NVQs are qualifications which demonstrate ability at work. The training is mainly on the job and NVQ assessment recognises an individual's performance at work with a nationally recognised qualification.

They are available to all ages, at any career stage and no previous qualifications are necessary. As the skills are assessed through work-based evidence, there are no 'end of unit' tests or exams. Certification is based purely on evidence of the skills.

An NVQ comprises several units which can be tailored to reflect the job that an employee is carrying out and the skills they need to perform. Each unit is made up of a number of national occupational standards that cover all the main aspects of a job.

How will NVQs help your business?

·         Tailored learning and assessment around work plans so it fits in with the working day

·         A useful tool to re-skill your staff to relevant national standards.

·         Help your business meet the requirements for ISO and IIP

·         By demonstrating a commitment to employee development - many companies who support NVQs see a reduction in staff turnover and sickness levels, in addition to a more positive and committed workforce.

·         By boosting the confidence of employees with few or no formal qualifications since NVQs are 'learning by doing' with no tests or exams.

Why train your staff with ABAAS?

ABAAS delivers NVQs in a flexible and practical way to ensure they meet the needs of your business without disrupting the schedules of your employees.

Support

We can provide as much or as little support as is needed. The tutor you work with will provide support online, at the workplace or over the phone. Your staff can also learn at our centre if they prefer to.

We are part of a network of centres providing training throughout England - you do not need to have the technology at work to deliver the training.

Online flexible learning

All our courses are broken down into bite-sized chunks so learning can be done at a time and place that suits your business. An employee can do as much or as little as they want during each session and repeat parts of the courses as many times as they like. It's not like traditional learning where you have to do a course for a set amount of time on the same day every week.

This support and flexibility means that achievement time of more traditional methods can be reduced with less disruption to your business and a more evenly spread impact of staff training.

How will we work with you?

We will arrange a meeting with you and advisor from our training centre who will advise you on the most appropriate training for each individual.

Step 1. We assess skill/knowledge gaps
An NVQ advisor will use diagnostics to help each employee identify what they can do already and what they need to learn. They will jointly agree on activities to meet their needs and approve these with you.

Step 2. We deliver flexible, practical training based on the skill gaps identified.   The advisor will then suggest the most appropriate course(s). We will then deliver a flexible programme combining online learning to provide the necessary knowledge.

Step 3. We assess competence
ABAAS will provide an assessor who will meet with your employee a number of times throughout the process to review and record progress and to help them meet the NVQ evidence requirements. Generally, the job the employee is doing will generate the evidence for assessment which reduces disruption to normal work. Where an employee has not met the required standard at that time, they are given the opportunity to improve their ability and will be reassessed later.

All ABAAS courses are affordable and centre staff will be able to advise you how much a course will cost and/or whether your employees are eligible for government funding. Check out the course fees section and see which criteria applies to you and your workforce.

What's your role?

Your role as an employer is to ensure your staff have the opportunity at work to demonstrate competence in the workplace within deadlines. You need to be committed to allow the time within the business for assessment to take place, and, if applicable, allow sufficient flexibility for the employee to undertake jobs beyond their current remit.
